It's not often a band decides to be varied on a debut single. Usually a band will keep it fairly consistent - show everyone what they're about and hammer the message home. The Research aren't having any of that.
'She's Not Leaving' is a synthed up, genetically modified monster of a track, daring to be glam and garage all in the same breath. Elsewhere 'Stand By My Man' plays the electropop card, while 'Love Me Tender' keeps things as fey and indie as you can amidst all the beeps and whirrs of electronica.
Most bands struggle to have so many ideas over an entire album. The Research have managed it over one single. Not bad for seven minutes.
'She's Not Leaving' is released through At Large on 15th November 2004.
