The Research - C'mon Chameleon
Artist:
The Research
Rating:
Sometimes you fall in love with a band, sometimes it's a concept, sometimes an item of clothing; it's rare that you get all three in the same package, though not impossible - not when you have The Research and Russell's magic hat in the world.
Spilt singles don't come much more diverse in content. The melancholic, macabre theme of the death march video accompanies 'C'mon Chameleon's delightful backing harmonies and requisite two-shilling keyboard melodies, offsetting the themes in favour of the feel.
'I Love You But' is the track which captures the attention of those who witness the band for the first time live – possessing the most honest lyrics about love ever written, brilliant and touching, drawing a lump to the throat of anyone who's ever had cause to question themselves.
Two tracks which hum with all the drive of a moment waiting to burst through; this is a slice of pop that for too long pop has overlooked, don't let yourself fall in to that trap.
'C'mon Chameleon' is released as a single through At Large on 22nd August 2005.
