Class of 2006: The Research
Artist:
The Research
So, who's next on our DIY Class of 2006 register? It's none other than Yorkshire terriers The Research! Woo!
Who?
If the idea of a nine quid keyboard, a charity shop drumkit and songs about love equalled a brain-meltingly awful racket, you'd better think again. Wakefield trio The Research have been charming us ever since their debut single 'She's Not Leaving' made us helplessly weak at the knees - it's two minutes of fizzing Casio-pop sounded like the best two minutes of fizzing Casio-pop we'd ever heard.
Their quirky live shows up and down the country have been slowly teaching people about the ways of The Research - their bittersweet, witty synth-pop (think Bis meets The Beach Boys) might sound shambolic at first but underneath are a set of solid songs to warm even the coldest of hearts.
2005 saw them supporting the likes of Maxïmo Park, The Cribs and The Go! Team, and 2006 is going to be even busier for them: their hotly-anticipated debut album is set for release (we've heard it, it's ace) and they're going to be a must-see live act when they set out on their nationwide tour this spring.
Sounds like:
Belle and Sebastian pissed on gin at a speed-dating event.
