Land Of Talk - Young Bridge
Artist:
Land Of Talk
Rating:
Say what you like about metallers – they know how to choose their singers. More often than not, you'll find that they hire someone who hasn't seen his feet in over a decade, yet growls like an angel. For the current flock of new indie bands however, finding a talented and distinctive voice often takes a backseat to making sure their vocalist can dance like a blinded Ian Curtis.
Land of Talk's Elizabeth Powell certainly has talent. What she also has here though is a fantastic impersonation of The Cardigans' Nina Persson, which, unspectacularly accompanied by thrashy chords on guitar, doesn't lend itself to standing out.
'Young Bridge' has pretty, melodious and unintelligible verses, followed by serviceably noisy, equally unintelligible choruses, but the fact that we didn't notice the transition between the end of the song and it's b-side during the first couple of listens is worrying to say the least. And yet there's potential in the familiar beauty of that voice; do something new with it, Land of Talk, and you may win us over yet.
'Young Bridge' is released as a single through One Little Indian on 8th October 2007.

Nina Persson???
On DiS someone wrote she sounds like Emily Haines... please take a decision!
I think her voice on this song is similar to the girl on the Heavenly (Sarah records), in other songs she reminds me of an early cat power. Nina Persson vocals are much more clean and boring.
