The Presets - My People
Artist:
The Presets
Rating:
Writing songs about going out and having fun with your mates isn't - let's face it - exploring what one would call 'new territory'. From 'Celebration' to 'All My Friends' via 'S Club Party', it's been done before in many different guises, and with various levels of success. You're going to have to try bloody hard to top LCD Soundsystem. Which makes it a good job The Presets don't take their effort particularly seriously.
'My People' has lyrics barely more complicated than 2Unlimited's 'No Limit', but, just as you danced to that at school discos back in the not-so-heady Panda Pop-fuelled 90s, the Aussie electro-pop duo's number will have you doing similar this side of the legal drinking age. Even if it does appear to bear an inexplicable resemblance in places to MN8's 'I've Got A Little Something For You'. No? Just us then...
'My People' is released as a single through Modular on 11th February 2008.

The lyrics to My People may seem uncomplicated, but they actually relate to the boat people crisis before the last federal election in 2004 and the ongoing issues with refugees locked up in detention centres... "locked up with all of my people".

yeah, what Rae said... I wouldn't be giving their lyrics a hard time, they're actually quite meaningful...
