The Seal Cub Clubbing Club - May
Artist:
The Seal Cub Clubbing Club
Rating:
The Seal Cub Clubbing Club is still a fantastic band name. And no it's not cruel. Well clubbing seal cubs is, but it's highly doubtful that TSCCC actually partake in Morrissey's least favourite pastime. If they did they probably wouldn't have the time to deliver this slice of pure oddness.
'May' alternates between epic sweeping guitars and almost breathed vocals, driven by a solid backing to spat lyrics and tribal toms. It then picks itself up, brings the two together and delivers some fantastic distorted chords that occupy the same ground as Young Knives' 'Here Comes The Rumour Mill', only gnarlier. And odder.
It's still (relatively) early days for The Seal Cub Clubbing Club, as 'May' is only their third release. Already though, they've surpassed the initial Super Furry Animals influences and morphed into something between glacial indie and nutty post-rock. It's a delight. It really is. If they did kill small animals, 'May' might just be enough to allow them to be forgiven.
'May' is released as a single through Boon[e] Recordings on 24th March 2008.

If it kept them making songs as good as this i would actively help them murder seals.
