Spiral Beach - Voodoo
Artist:
Spiral Beach
Rating:
Refreshingly unlike the hordes of multi-instrumentalist groups that have recently emerged from their native Canada (seriously, is everyone over there a musician or something?), Spiral Beach recently jetted over to London town, and whilst there took in a gig by The Ting Tings. The reasons, and indeed the similarities, are obvious. Whilst the verse is instantly forgettable, 'Voodoo''s chorus exudes bouncy fun, even if the lyrics are utterly incomprehensible.
What marks this track out, however, is the series of twists and turns it takes after the two-minute mark. Suddenly stopping save for an open hi-hat, it morphs into an out-take from the Scooby Doo soundtrack, before contorting itself into a cross between the 'oompah' ending of a musical and the theme of a spaghetti western, all the while staying the right side of ridiculous.
'Voodoo' is released as a single through Relentless on 2nd June 2008.
