Eric Clapton and B.B King joined forces back in 2000 where much of the album included reworks of old classics. These included 'Ten Long Years', 'Three O'Clock Blues', 'Help The Poor' and 'My Heart Beats Like A Hammer'. 'Key To The Highway' is a cover of a track from the band Derek & The Dominoes, one of the many bands Clapton was involved in, but also one that brought him great success. The one and only album that the band recorded included the infamous 'Layla', a track written about Pattie Boyd and her unrequited love for Clapton.Them Crooked Vultures are a rock supergroup who formed backed in 2009. The three members are John Paul Jones (Led Zeppellin), Dave Grohl (Foo fighters, Nirvana) and Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age). The band have thus far only released one self-titled album and it mostly contains elements of hard and alternative rock but 'Interludes With Ludes' is a dreamy psych-track. A second album is expected with all members saying that it will happen, but nothing has been finalised.
The Temptations were one of the most successful Motown groups of all time, with track 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone' topping the US Billboard charts back in 1972. The album also claimed three Grammy awards in 1973. The original album mix came in at a total of 12 minutes in length, with the single edit cut down to 7 minutes. The track is well known for it’s heavily extended intro, 4 minutes and thirty nine seconds in length.
Blakroc is a collaborative album featuring The Black Keys and a number of hip-hop artists. These included RZA, Mos Def and Jim Jones. The album was recorded in just 11 days and contains 11 tracks. Due to the lack of time, the vocals for the track 'She Just Keep Telling Me Things' were not perfected, and RZA slightly loses his flow at one point in the track. He is then heard saying “almost had it right there” at the end of the song. 'What You Do To Me' includes elements of blues, soul, rock and rap, and includes Billy Danze of M.O.P., Jim Jones, & Nicole Wray on vocals.
Sleepy Sun are a Californian psych-folk band who have released two albums under the ATP label. Their third album, ‘Spine Hits’, is due to be released on the 10th April 2012, and was recorded in Rancho Del La Luna, the same place as ex-tour mates Arctic Monkeys' third album ‘Humbug'. 'Open Eyes' is featured on the band's second album, ‘Fever’.
'Let’s Talk About Girls' is the introductory track from the album ‘No Way Out’ released in 1967. The album is seen as a prime example of late sixties psychedelic, and track 'Let’s Talk About Girls' has a blues edge to it, with undercurrents of this sound throughout the album. The Chocolate Watch Band were together for five years, before they split up indefinitely in 1970. The band recorded five albums, with ‘No Way Out’ being their first.
'Prelude Nightmare' is taken from the album ‘The Crazy World of Arthur Brown’. The Who’s Pete Townsend was involved in the production of the LP back in 1968, considered a classic of the late-1960s psychedelic scene. As the album title suggests, Arthur Brown is well known for his flamboyant, theatrical style. He has been associated with a range of different artists including Hawkwind, Klaus Schulze and All Living Fear.
The all-girl band Warpaint, describe themselves as weaving intricate guitar lines, hypnotic vocals and driving post punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs that skirt the line between psychedelia and intimacy. The track 'Warpaint' comes from their debut album, ‘The Fool’ which was released back in 2010. Prior to this the band recorded an EP produced by the Ex-Red Hot Chilli Pepper guitarist, John Frascanti. Since the release of their debut album, the band has been performing at festivals and touring around the globe. They are currently pursuing an American tour, and will be soon doing a collection of gigs in the UK.
'A Child Of A Few Hours Is Burning To Death' is a blues standard track originally by The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. Dead Weather released a cover of the song that was a B-side to Cut Like A Buffalo, the third single from the band’s first album, ‘Horehound’. Dead Weather have since released a second album, entitled ‘Sea of Cowards’. The band is made up of Alison Mosshart (The Kills, Discount), Jack White (The White Stripes, The Raconteurs), Dean Fertita (Queens Of The Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, The Greenhornes)
The Chambers Brothers were one of the first integrated rock groups and their music was a great combination of psychedelic rock, gospel, soul and funk. The key song is the mind-blowing 'Time Has Come Today', all 11 minutes of it. The lead vocal declares that "the soul has been psychedelicised” The central section of the song is complete with fuzzy guitars, drums rolling, and repetitive sinister laughter.
