Tame Impala make psychedelic hypno-groove melodic rock music, apparently. The band has said they enjoy recording music at home. 'It’s Not Meant To Be' is the introductory track off the album 'Innerspeaker'. Released back in 2010, the band will be bringing out their second album sometime this year. Spindrift is a psychedelic rock band created by singer, songwriter and producer Kirpatrick Thomas. The band was founded back in 1992, yet the current line up have performed at SXSW 2010, Psych Fest III and supported Black Mountain.
Moon Duo is made up of two guys from San Francisco. Firstly, Wooden Shjips' and ex -13th Floor Elevator member, Erik "Ripley" Johnson on guitar and fellow San Franciscan Sanae Yamada on keyboards. The pair released two EPs, Killing Time from 2009 and Escape from 2010, and released the debut album in the spring of 2011, 'Mazes'. The sound is tightly written with fixed rhythms. Also there is no drummer; the only percussion in the track 'When You Cut' is through the clapping of hands.
The third album from The Dandy Warhol’s was seen as a breakthrough album for the band after the commercial success of 'Bohemian Like You'. The special edition version that brought seven additional songs included 'Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth (Heroin Is So Passe)' in reply to Brian Jonestown Massacre’s 'Not If You Were the Last Dandy on Earth'. 'Godless' is the opening track on the album, and was also the second single they released from the album.
Passover is the debut album from Texas Psych-Rock band. Since then they have released two more albums. The Black Angels took their name from the song 'The Black Angel's Death Song' by The Velvet Underground. The Velvet’s are also references in the band's logo, which is a high-contrast negative image of the vocalist Nico. The band spent 2011 touring, and will be one of the headliners for the Austin Psych Festival in April.
Dead Meadow formed in the fall of 1998. Their third album release was back in 2005, with Feathers. This was the second album released on Matador records. They have also recorded two albums since, called 'Old Growth' and 'Three Kings'. Jason Simon (singer/guitarist) also released a self-titled acoustic album last year on TeePee Records.
Smoke and Feathers are from Austin and can be described as psychedelic southern rock. Guitarists, Hunter Cahalan and Josh Terry founded the band, then local bassist Alan Houston connected with the pair, bringing his deep low end and groovy thumps into the mix. Soon after, the group picked up drummer Geoff Guillard, and soon after released their debut EP, 'Smoke and Feathers.'
A conventional Blues track from the American Rock band. The song is well known for its mysterious bottle neck guitar intro. Morrison supposedly wrote the lyrics during his days on a rooftop in Venice Beach, a suburb of Los Angeles in 1965. As well as death and freedom, environmental aesthetics is an underlying theme Morrison uses in a range of his songs including, 'Car’s Hiss By The Window' and 'Love Street'. The track was a B-side to 'Love Me Too Times' and was released back in 1967.
'Plumy Tale' was the first single released back in the summer of 2011. The band is made up of an Italian Multi-instrumentalist who used a reel to reel machine to record the LP. His girlfriend also sings on a few of the tracks including 'Plumy Tale'. The album is named 'Elephants At The Door' and they are now signed to Bad Panda Records.
The Blues and Soul band are fronted by vocalist and guitarist Brittany Howard. They will be releasing their debut album, 'Boys & Girls', on April 9. It was recorded at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville and the band produced the LP themselves. But for now, we have to settle for the brilliant self-titled EP that was released back in September.
