This weekend, New York City was sent into a flurry of panic. Hurricane Irene was going to make ground in the heart of the city! The last time a storm system of this magnitude threatened the city was Hurricane Gloria in 1985. The metro area was thrown into confusion and fear; people bought up all the non-perishable goods, folks were evacuated, mass transit was shut down.

And then. It was declassified to a Tropical Storm. A bit of rain.

However, in the midst of the panic, one man decided to poke fun at the Hurricane, laugh in the face of its danger. DIY writer (and resident of New York City), Willis Arnold created a Twitter account @FuckUIrene and continued to tweet through the panic and evacuations. Making wry and ironic comments on the whole situation.

And thus, the Fuck U Irene Playlist was born. A wide range of songs with one very defining theme running through them; and we bring it to you.

Scorpions - Rock You Like A Hurricane

Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet

The Doors - Riders on the Storm

The Replacements - Dose of Thunder

Lou Reed - Last Great American Whale

Milli Vanilli - Blame It On The Rain

Grateful Dead - Box Of Rain

Cee-Lo Green - Fuck You
