Glasgow Guide (Part One)
DIY has been to Glasgow a few times of late, but in truth, we rarely see anything outside of a venue or hotel. Rather than just buy an A-Z, we decided to get two of our favourite bands to give us some pointers. This week, The Twilight Sad suggest some of their favourite haunts while Frightened Rabbit pass judgement. Next week the roles get reversed. Enjoy!

Mark, The Twilight Sad
Favourite Place: Soeey Brig
"I like the Sooey Brig. Located on the edge of a large wooded area, it is a prime spot to drink bottles of cheap screw top wine. It also has the advantage of being a short picturesque walk from the Swan. An ideal combination for a night out!"

Grant, Frightened Rabbit: "I can picture Devine with his bottle of red Italian Job cutting a lonely figure on the windy moors. Kind of like Heathcliffe but Heathcliffe played by Cliff Richard in a west end musical. By cheap screw top wine do you mean Bucky? I think so!"

Andy M, Frightened Rabbit: "Even though I've never been I used to hang out a similar spot in Ayrshire so I'd feel at home. You can't go wrong with some screw top wine, woods and a view."

Craig, The Twilight Sad
Favourite Place: G-Force - Independent Games Shop
"There seems to be a decline in independent shops what with the costs of renting a shop in the centre of town, some uping sticks and heading towards the internet or going out of business altogether, so in Glasgow it is good that there is G-Force, a face of independent gaming. Mainstream stores get in the products that will cover their markets but don't go further afield which is a real shame for the consumers; there is a world of gaming out there that they may never know through ignorance or a lack or knowledge. However, should they ever stumble into this shop, they may have their eyes opened to the delights of import and retro gaming. That is something solely lacking in it's mainstream counterparts which reason enough why this shop is just grand."

Grant, Frightened Rabbit: "This seems like the perfect place for Orzel to hang out. I can picture the scene now. Two star crossed gamers browsing the retro Nintendo shelf. They both go to grab the same copy of Castlevania. There's some contact.
'No you take it', syas Orzel.
The girl blushes. 'You saw it first. You take it', replies the girl.
Orzel hesitates. 'You snooze you lose bitch.'
With game in hand off he trots to his haven (dark bedroom) of 80s gaming."

Andy M, Frightened Rabbit: "Never been here, sounds like it's full of geeks. I think Billy would love it."

James, The Twilight Sad
Favourite Place: The Swann Inn
"If you feel like taking a small trip outside the city, come to Banton where the Swan Inn lies! Have a family dinner round at the Graham house then off to the best pub in the world! The jukebox is amazing, it has Meatloaf, Guns and Roses and Cuntry Legends!"

Grant, Frightened Rabbit: "Never been to The Swan Inn but I have been to the Graham house and let me tell you it's a hard place to leave. One of the best views in the west which can't even be seen from across the road. Forget Garda, forget Michigan. Oh yeah it's the Banton lakes baby!!"

Andy M, Frightened Rabbit: "Meat loaf, G + R and cunts I'm sold."

Andy, The Twilight Sad
Favourite Place: 13th Note
"1. It's out the way of Sauchiehall Street and it's not in the West End, so it's never stowed unless it's the weekend. 2. It's a vegetarian/vegan cafe and they make vegetarin haggis, neeps and tatties with a pink peppercorn sauce, which is the cat's knees. 3. It has a bar. 4. There's a venue in the basement that is small and loud. 5. There's a DJ and a jukebox up the stairs. 6. It is across the road from Monorail, the best vinyl shop in glasgow. So you can get fed, get drunk, go over the road and buy vinyl and come back and get more drunk."

Grant, Frightened Rabbit: "Anywhere you can get drunk, stumble across the road to buy vinyl then come back and get more drunk is good for me. Definitely one of my favourite venues in Glasgow but what is it with vegan mayonnaise. Should such a thing be allowed to exist? I say nae."

Andy M, Frightened Rabbit: "This place is great. A nice, sweaty venue and great staff. Plus the burger and a pint deal cannae be beat."
 interesting

probably more so if you’re in glasgow
