Dinosaur Pile-Up - The Most Powerful EP In The Universe!!
EP ReviewsExpect no less than some thundering instantaneous rock music.
Friends Vs Records, 17th August 2009 / By Lee White
With the name Dinosaur Pile-Up we'd expect no less than some thundering instantaneous rock music and on that premise 'The Most Powerful EP In The Universe!!' delivers. And then some. This release acts as a brilliant showcase for the band who clearly take their influences heavily from proper '90s rock music such as Nirvana, early Foo Fighters and Weezer yet deliver their songs with a sense of humour comparable to that which got We Are Scientists noticed. Now's the time when we compliment the band for their riffs: across all five tracks there's some fantastically brutal ones on show. 'Summer Hit Single' should be and 'Opposites Attract' is sludgy and memorable from the first listen. Where some bands make the mistake of getting the riff spot on then forgetting to form the rest of the song around it, Dinosaur Pile-Up stick a Death Star sized tune on top and fire up the superlaser.
If the EP title does what it says on the tin then you'd expect a song called 'Cat Attack'!! to mightily deliver wouldn't you. Well, guess what – it's a song about being attacked... by cats. It manages to be funny without being too silly and is one for those that distrust those suspicious looking Moggies. Closing pair 'Melanin' and 'Beach Bug' are likewise great with the former featuring some of the best lyrics on the EP and grinding through the verses before the guitars in the choruses do their best impression of female backing vocalists. The latter being the most Guitar Hero ready new song that we've heard in a while with the quirky rhythm and general explosiveness.
These guys at this rate are going to be one of our really great bands. Get in on Dinosaur Pile-Up now.
