For fans of the aforementioned release ‘Welcome Home Armageddon’, this EP will please you endlessly. Featuring five of the album’s tracks live at XFM, the band display their transferability between recorded and live performances with ease. ‘Sixteen’ – one of the poppier numbers of the record – seems almost identical to the studio version but grasps that live quality and rawer vocal projection.
The remix of the EP, ‘Medicated’, takes a rather subdued track from the original record and gives it a further dimension, bridging the divide between Funeral For A Friend and dubstep. At no point does this transformation seem overbearing; in fact, it’s relatively well balanced.
The two acoustic numbers at the tail end of this release, ‘Old Hymns’ and ‘Welcome Home Armageddon’, are simply lovely. They’ve taken two elaborately catchy numbers and completely stripped them down to the bare essentials, allowing the raw performance quality to shine through.
This EP is a treat for Funeral For A Friend fans; it not only provides new recordings of tracks that people have grown to love, but it highlights the qualities the band possess in terms of musicality, recording and live performance. ‘See You All In Hell’ doesn’t allow the band to progress like 2010’s ‘The Young and Defenceless’ did, but it is definitely a nice little addition for fans to acquire.
