A concise collection of fabulously fun pop, Icona Pop’s 'Nights Like This' EP is their first release following a recent signing with the big dogs at Mercury. Thankfully this hasn’t sparked change.

Kicking off with 'Nights Like This', the Swedish electro-pop duo (Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo) give us a hook-laden, harmony-laced number that will make the thirteen-year-old girl inside every one of us want to jump up and down. The electronic aspect provides a perfect counter-point to the otherwise chart-pleasing-pop, a genius balance maintained throughout.

'Manners' showcases their attractive-as-hell voices before breaking through with a ‘school assembly singsong’ chorus over delightfully OTT synths and a funky electronic bassline. The song is drenched in youthful pop but is very, very cool. 'Lovers To Friends', meanwhile, gives off major Katy Perry vibes with added bass. It works.

Following an opening that sounds like the build-up to the massive baddie fight at the end of that PC game you had when you were younger, 'Sun Goes Down' bizarrely hits us with Tyler-style vocals reminiscent of Yonkers. These talented Scandinavians truly can make anything work.

Icona Pop are bringing fresh new electro-pop meat to the musical table. Be excited.
