An Alternative To London Fashion Week

LondonCentral has a bit more of a youthful, indie feel.

An Alternative To London Fashion Week With London Fashion Week soon to hit (17th - 22nd February, FYI), the capital can expect an influx of women teetering on skyscraper heels, existing on little more than a mini muffin for the duration, and hauling the latest designer handbag (probably with a Chihuahua stuffed inside) that cost more than most people’s monthly salary. Bothered? Us? Not so much. And that’s because we’d much rather see what’s going on at a more alternative fashion offering.

The National Hall Olympia will be host to three alternative fashion shows from Sunday 5th – Tuesday 7th February and we doubt there’ll be a Balenciaga bag in sight (here’s hoping). LondonEdge, LondonCentral and The Ledge promise to be a darn sight more interesting than watching skinny models parade up and down in outfits you’d never be seen dead in.

Instead, these three shows present fashion that’s more in tune with real people. For instance, if you’re into your punk, rock and metal music, LondonEdge is bound to be packed full of outfits you’ll not want to leave behind. It’s basically how Camden used to be before it turned into five stalls selling the same thing in different spots, at different prices.

LondonCentral, meanwhile, has a bit more of a youthful, indie feel with brands like Monkey Genes and A-Non showcasing their wares, while The Ledge is the UK’s only Active Sports and Lifestyle trade show. That means, all those labels that reek of effortless cool such as Etnies, Eastpak and Alpinestars will be out in force.

If all this has got you more than a little excited about what’s going on in the alternative fashion world, check back on DIY Extra after the 5th February to see what we made of the whole shebang. We have a sneaking suspicion you’re going to like what we find…
