Gadget Wishlist: Headphones If the only thing that makes the journey into school, college or work bearable is your music, then you’d best make sure you’ve got some decent headphones. Cue our pick of the top five headphones out there.

1. JVC HAFX1X Xtreme Xplosives In Ear Canal HeadphonesIf you’re all about the bass, these headphones are for you. Why? Because they’ve got 10mm large diaphragm neodymium driver units and Extreme Deep Base Ports if you must know. What’s more, with three silicone ear-pieces included you’ll be able to pick and choose your ear-piece for the best fit possible. Our only annoyance? The name – why can’t “Xtreme” and “Xplosives” be spelt properly? But that’s just us. JVC HAFX1X Xtreme Xplosives In Ear Canal Headphones £27.99 from Amazon

2. Urbanears Plattan Headphones in TomatoIf you view the type of headphones you wear like the type of shoes you choose to put on your feet, you’re just the person Urbanears are catering for. Like you, we’d rather not leave the house in a pair of Reebok Classics. So in a bid to make headphones a whole lot sexier, Urbanears have come up with headphones available in a rainbow of colours. Blue, green, purple, pink and tomato (red basically) for starters. We love the fabric-covered headband and cord which gives these headphones a quality feel, plus the extra jack socket on one of the ear cups means sharing music with a mate is a cinch. Urbanears Plattan Headphones £49.99 from Play.com

3. Sony MDR-V700DJ Professional DJ HeadphonesAlthough they’re billed as DJ headphones, you don’t have to be permanently glued to the turntables to enjoy these. In fact, a commute on the northern line is the perfect place to sample these – preferably around 8.03am on a Monday morning when no one wants to hear Little Mix’s latest release (whatever that’s called.) The Sony MDR-V700DJ headphones feature long leads so you’re free to bust a few moves without feeling restricted and the HD driver units ensure a sound that’s huge. £76.99 from Cheapelectricals.co.uk

4. Creative 51EF0450AA001 WP-300 Wireless HeadphonesWires can be annoying. Fact. They get caught on earrings, door handles, and all number of objects. In fact, thinking about it, we’re surprised the government hasn’t issued us with a health and safety warning about them yet. If you’re worried about the potential hazards of wires, opt for a set of wireless headphones like these Creative WP-300 ones. They let you connect via Bluetooth to all manner of mobile devices such as phones and laptops. And with their Neodymium drivers they’re also great for listening to movies, too. £61.30 from Amazon

5. QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® HeadphonesPicture the scene: you’re on a long road trip. To Worksop. You’re travelling with three 13-year-old girls who are hell bent on debating the merits of Justin Bieber versus One Direction. No matter how many fruit gums you eat to try and numb the pain you. Cannot. Take. Anymore! Time for the Quietcomfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones. You’ll get a comfy, around-the-ear fit, super-clear Bose sound, and technology that helps minimise any unwanted sound reaching you. Result. £259 from HMV.
