Gadget Wishlist: Time Wasting Gizmos Making tea; doing the housework; doodling: it’s fair to say, the art of procrastination can sometimes get a little dull. Praise be, then, for this little haul of time wasting gizmos – each one bound to help you ignore exactly what you should really be doing.

1. Dubreq StylophoneQuestion. What do David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, Rolf Harris and They Might Be Giants all have in common?  Answer. They’ve all used a stylophone on their records. If you too fancy a bit of the weird and wonderful tinny sound then splash out £12.99 at Play.com. It’s got a volume control and a headphone socket but where’s the fun in that? Surely, one of the main reasons the Dubreq Stylophone is in existence is to annoy your family and friends.

2. Pickmaster Plectrum MakerSupposed to be working on your epic album that’s destined to take the music world by storm? Course you are. If for whatever reason you find yourself floundering in the inspiration and motivation stakes, turn to the Pickmaster Plectrum Maker £19.99 from I Want One of Those. This nifty bit of kit lets you destroy credit cards, old Spice Girls membership cards, or whatever bit of plastic you can lay your hands on, with one simple punch. Even if you never end up making that album, you’ll have saved yourself a few bob in overdraft fees.

3. USB Whack ItPunching your boss in the face is usually not an option, so take your frustration out on the USB Whack It. There are no explanations needed here – it’s basically a mini version of the old arcade game that provided 5-minutes of respite from family holidays in Whitby. £13.99 from Firebox and well worth the money.

4. Spy WatchLast up, it’s the Spy Watch from the Science Museum shop. It might cost £90 but that’s a darn sight cheaper than hiring a private detective – and we reckon – much more fun, too. It records video, audio, takes photos and yep, tells the time. Perfect if you think Jean from reprographics is the one who’s been stealing your Monster Munch.
