London Fashion Week Round-Up

It’s always good to have a look at what the designers are doing.

London Fashion Week Round-Up It can’t have escaped your notice that London Fashion Week 2012 has been going on this week, and though here at DIY we’re more into charity shops, markets, and the high street, than forking out on designer wear, it’s always good to have a look at what the designers are doing.

Whether you plan on continuing the trend for all things grunge à la the 90s, or fancy updating your look to something a little more sophisticated with winter florals – neither will see you cast out as a fashion pariah as there are plenty of trends to latch on to.

Erdem showed off winter florals on fuss-free A-line skirts, while Giles showcased full-on flouncy skirts teamed with prim little cardigans and high collared shirts. Jonathan Saunders and Acne, meanwhile, paid homage to the big slouchy cover-up knits of the 90s. What with still feeling the full force of winter, we’re favouring the comfort factor of the big knit over the pretty and girly winter florals.

Elsewhere, there was great news for girls who’d rather hide their legs than show them off, as leggings under skirts and dresses continue to be big news – as seen at Clements Ribeiro and Issa.

On the bad news front however (although probably not for Hoxton-ites) Paul Smith models wore glasses. Yes the glasses were cool (60s cat eyes and thick-rimmed specs) but we can’t condone eyewear unless you actually need them to see. Glasses as a fashion accessory (other than sunglasses) are just plain wrong.
