The Diary: 30th January - 5th February 2012
Here’s your weekly rundown of things to do.
A play, a pie, & a pint: Sex, Chips and the Holy Ghost, Òran Mór, 731-735 Great Western Road, Glasgow, G12 8QX. Tickets £8 - £12.50. Ditch your usual lunchtime routine of skulking round the shops and take in this play about love and the cloth (and enjoy a pie and a pint while you’re at it). Cotton Tail Club, Audio, 10 Marine Parade, Brighton, BN2 1TL. 10pm onwards. £Free. Dust down your flapper dresses and rockabilly outfits and get ready to throw some old school shapes as DJs play jitter jive, early rhythm and blues, and big band swing.
Crick Crack Club: Rogue’s Gallery, Rich Mix, 35 - 47 Bethnal Green Road, London E1 6LA. 7.45pm. Tickets £6 advance, £8 on the door. If you’re hankering for a bedtime story, get along to this event for tales of vagabonds, thieves, and chancers. Folklore, myth and fairytale combine to create a wickedly fun evening full of mischief and merriment.
Northern Art Prize 2011, Leeds Art Gallery, The Headrow, Leeds, LS1 3AA. 10am – 5pm. £Free. Take in a spot of culture and check out sculpture, installations and paintings from the shortlisted artists – Liadin Cooke, Leo Fitzmaurice, James Hugonin and Richard Rigg.
Electroboutique Pop-Up, Science Museum, Exhibition Road, London, SW7 2DD. 10am – 6pm. £Free. Yes we thought it was a cool new club night too. But actually it’s the Science Museum’s offering to coincide with the country’s lust for all things pop-up. Interactive multimedia installations explore themes of consumerism, capitalism, art production and so forth. Deep.
Lost Is Found, Cornerhouse, 70 Oxford Street, Manchester, M1 5NH.12pm – 8pm. £Free. See what a load of old junk can be turned into in this exhibition of contemporary works made from stuff people threw away. Featuring works by Andrea Brooker, Cherry Tenneson, and Eileen O’Rourke amongst others.
Vintage Retro Fair at Secondo, 642 Voltaire Road, Clapham North, London, SW4 6DH. From 1pm. £Free. Rummage away to your heart’s content for all things vintage, retro and pre-loved. And if you feel your blood sugar levels sinking, don’t worry - there will be cupcakes on hand to help keep your energy levels up.
