As long as you’re not sporting one of those hideous over-sized beanies that look like a used condom, your hat will be alright with us.

Glam it up with this Black Vintage Petal Pill Box Hat from River Island. It’s layered with fabric petals in black, coffee and cream shades and topped with netting for that Hollywood siren look. £18 well spent.

This Wool Felted Fedora Hat is a touch on the 70s side. Cue flares, platforms and Farah Fawcett. Ok, not strictly necessarily. Actually, for a nod to the decade team this hat with a belted mac and voila. It comes from New Look with the – we think – somewhat retro price tag of £9.99.

For a subtle ‘Where’s Wally’ moment (red and white stripes and a bobble would be taking things too far) opt for a cosy woolly hat like this pocket-money-friendly version from H&M. Just £6.99.

Vintage 1920s cloche hats go for a packet on eBay so save your pennies and plump for a modern reworking like this one from Next. It’s £14 and comes in a range of colours, but (you may have guessed) teal’s our favourite. Love the little bow detail on the back, too.

Look carefully at this retro-style beret and you’ll see that what at first looks merely like leopard print, is in fact an abstract heart print. Awww. Pass us the sick bucket! Only joking, we’re all for hearts really. Abstract Heart Angora Beret £18 from Accessorize.
