Sparkly stuff might usually be reserved for the festive season, but this year we’re getting in on the act early. Cue knitwear made with metallic threads, dresses dripping in glitter, and nails lacquered in bronze, silver and gold. Just hold fire when it comes to Spice Girls-style glitter hairspray.

The body-con shape of this Black Metallic Scoop Back Dress is given an AW11 twist with a twinkly asphalt finish. Team with bare legs if you dare and chunky heels. £35 from River Island.

New trends needn’t mean a complete wardrobe overhaul. Uh-uh. Add a statement piece of jewellery like this Rhinestone Pan Collar and you’ll be able to transform countless outfits in one fell swoop. This would look great with a simple black top. £50 from Miss Selfridge.

The cunning folk at ASOS have married three trends in one with these Sixties-esque brothel creepers-slash-brogues finished in metallic leather. Perfect for adding height sans the crippling effect of skyscraper heels. Monroe Platform Creeper Shoes £95.

Slather your nails in this liquid bronze and you’ll have the Midas touch. But in a good way. Available in three shades – Heart of Gold, Moonshine and our favourite, Treasure. Autumn in a bottle. £6 from Topshop.

Add a little zing to your daytime wardrobe with this Foil Print Hem Detail Jumper. Half in on the chunky fisherman knit trend and half in on the metallic look…ok so it may sit slightly on the fence, but it’s a great choice for covering up as the days draw in. £29.99 from New Look.

Definitely not one for wallflowers, and probably anyone over a size 14, but if you’ve got a little bit of the Ziggy Stardust about you, these Metallic Trousers are screaming to be worn. They’re brash, bold and everything about them says we shouldn’t like them. But, the magpie in us says, ooooh shiny! £29.99 from Zara.
