Weekly Fashion Fix: Retro Sportswear To Beat The January Blues Post Christmas bloat should not be hanging around in March, so to help shift the bulge asap we’ve picked the coolest retro sportswear out there. Nothing beats roller boots, acid wash, and 80s leggings. And ok, while we know none of these items will miraculously get you looking like Jennifer Beals in Flashdance, they might just make exercising that little bit more bearable.

For a truly 70s vibe, we draw your attention to this La Spezia top by Fila Vintage. Featuring a simple granddad collar neckline, and reliable retro blue, cream and red colour-way, it’s almost too good for associating with sport. We reckon it’d make great cycling wear – better than a yellow jersey any day. £34.99 from Atom Retro.

If you’d rather be heard listening to Westlife’s greatest hits than be seen exercising in public, you’ve probably bought a dance or fitness DVD by now. If so, don these Nylon Spandex Tricot Leggings in purple. Not only are they incredibly 80s, we have a feeling they’ll probably highlight all your wobbly bits – what better motivation than to get grape vine-ing?! £6 from American Apparel in the sale.

In the spirit of tightening the purse strings in January, simply give your old trainers a retro feel with these Tie-Dye Printies by Mr Lacy. They come in a stash of colours but for perking up January exercise routines these are our must-haves. Priced from £4 at JD Sports nationwide.

Carebears, Thundercats, and our all time fave 80s cartoon, Rainbow Brite. That’s who’ll we’ll be channeling when we wear the Mancara Vest by Roxy. It’s retro sportswear that’s just begging to be paired with a toweling headband and legwarmers. £27.99 from Surfdome

These Gola Pulse boots might be more Japanese anime than pure retro sportswear, but we couldn’t help ourselves. And for heavens sake can you blame us?! Where else would you find a pair of trainers laced with hearts and checkerboards and teamed with yellow, pink and black detail? (Yes, ok, Gwen Stefani’s wardrobe but shhh!) They’re probably designed for any self-respecting 13-year-old but so what – this is January and we need cheering up. Gola Pulse boots £52.50 from Gola

The UK’s uneven paving slabs might be no match for America’s beachside stretches of smooth wide sidewalks, but stiff upper lip and all that. Get on with it! Lace yourself into a pair of SFR Rio Roller Quad Skates and we’ll forgive you if you feel compelled to sing the Bodyform song at full blast. (Wearing white trousers is still a no-no though). £44.99 from Surfdome

Last up, we’d love it if this was a heat-changing hoody but it ain’t. While we get over that we’ll just lust after its totally 80s acid wash vibe. Great for prancing around and doing aerobics in, and equally good for slobbing. Your choice. Unisex Acid Wash Pullover Hoody: retro sportswear at the very retro price of £15 in the American Apparel sale.
