2010 Tips From Erland & The Carnival & Alan Pownall
We're not really huge fans of lists (unless they're of the Christmas or shopping variety).

We're not really huge fans of lists (unless they're of the Christmas or shopping variety) as when used to mark the start or end of something (the year, say, or the decade...) they all seem to be the bloody same. We don't really want to tip Ellie Goulding, or The Drums - you know they're going to do well, everyone else has already told you. So, we've got some other people to tell us who they think should be big this year, and who will be big this year. Different people it seems have interpreted this different ways, and it's all interesting stuff. This week (and maybe some of next) we're going to publish them, in a feature a day (some are quite short, you see).David Nock, Erland & The Carnival

I would imagine that by far and away the most successful album of next year will be 'Music from the Vatican: Alma Mater. Featuring the voice of Pope Benedict XVI'. With over 1 billion baptized members, the Catholic church has got an extraordinary mailing list at it's disposal and should see their main man, Pope B 16, at the top of the charts.
One woman who is bound to find herself in the limelight again in 2010 is Shirley Bassey. Who knows whether it'll be people like our Mum's forking out the cash for nostalgia's sake or a whole new generation of music fans, through her collaborations with the Kaiser Chiefs, Gary Barlow, Pet Shop Boys and Manic Street Preachers, that will see that she's back on everybody's radar.
People I'd like to see do well:
Deerhoof. Who's album released at the end of 2009 is cute, spasmodic and thuggishly charming.
ENV. Will the real Lilly Allen (with substance, talent and truthful outlook on her life put into words), please stand up.
Blue Roses. Fantastic Yorkshire (our new favorite place after visiting the Sculpture park) lass, who sounds close to twee but hit's harder than Hepatitis B. With influences of Kate Bush and sounding like she just fell out of a Stephen Sondheim musical with grizzly bear as her backing singers., she is the kind of singer you'd like to be massive in an alternate reality.
Alan Pownall

It's not for me to say. I hope Club-Royale do well, I think they are brilliant.
