A Day In The Life: Apache Beat

Ilirjana Alushaj gives us a blow by blow account of a day she had not so long ago.

The full title of this wonderful new feature is 'A Day In The Life Of An Up-And-Coming Indie / Pop Star', but unfortunately that's just too long to fit in the header bar there. It does, however, explain what's going on here pretty well.

To celebrate the release of her band's new album 'Last Chants', due out through Babylon on 11th October, Apache Beat's Ilirjana Alushaj has given us a blow by blow account of a day she had not so long ago. It's not a particularly special day, nothing especially exciting happens (unless you count Yeah Yeah Yeah's 10th Birthday bash... which, actually, we do), but it's riveting stuff nonetheless. Honest.

I woke up this morning and this is what I saw.

It is my ceiling. Last night I went to see Atari Teenage Riot and am thus currently enjoying the silence and this white ceiling. I start thinking about life and my recently stolen phone. I am missing text messages and this is annoying.

I would take a picture of it but I DON’T HAVE IT ANYMORE. Bummer.

I get up and answer a million emails. This is boring. I leave the house (with computer) and work on a track for some British pop singer. I do an Apache Beat interview on iChat and then drink a lot of coffee. There are more emails. Again this is boring, but the coffee makes it happen with more speed and stealth.

Everyone is emailing at the coffee shop I’ve ended up at, so in the very least I am not the only bored one. I have become very good at the Internet and now without the aforementioned phone, have plenty of time to do these emails and research memes online.

When my battery died, I ventured to Glasslands Gallery, to do an inteview for an Australian radio show 2SER. This is the journalist Chris, and he is chill.

Chris is interviewing Crocodiles after me, so I am at their sound check. Reminds me how much I hate sound check. Which the reminded me of other things I don’t like (colds, people who slurp and Ugg boots)... started to think about the state of my life again. Double bummer.

I went back home and hung out there, which doesn’t really warrant any imagery. In the evening I head over to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs 10th Birthday Anniversary. It is at this tiny venue in Manhattan. Basically today is same day and place they played their first show. They are old friends and it was mad fun.

I was pushed hard in the mosh and now can feel a massive bruise coming up on my leg. Undesired injuries. Oh well... after the Yeah Yeah Yeahs I go back to Brooklyn to see Untold and Brenmar. They both killed it. Oddly enough, I was almost killed (okay that is a little bit of dramatisation) via a hit in the face. I now have a cut lip. How this happened at a dance party is sincerely beyond me... people need more controlled dancing or something.

This is Untold playing.

I was directly in the vision of lasers, so I couldn’t see too much. If you’d really like to know, Untold was wearing a very “french inspired” stripey tee. After the party, a bunch of us went to devour pizza. My friend Tenaya particular was feeling it.

By the time we ate it was after four am and I needed bed badly.
My life today. The end.
