A To Z: Gallops

As the band like their letters so much, we get them to give us a quick run through of the alphabet.

Gallops are preparing for the release of their double A-side single 'Joust' / 'Eukodol' on the 15th August. Seeing as they like their letters so much, we get them to give us a quick run through, A to Z style.

A is for... Ableton Live. A bit geeky but we've got to give props to this software. It's made what we do so much easier. If any Ableton Live reps are reading we are totally open to any endorsement deals.

B is for... Beer. We love beer. Again, it's made what we do so much easier!

C is for... Coltrane. Both John and Alice. They were really pushing their music to far out places in the late 60's and they deserve eternal respect for that. The 'Cosmic Music' collaboration album is really something else!

D is for... Dre, Dr Dre that is. One of the best producers in his field. '2001' and 'The Chronic' are stone-cold classics.

E is for... Eggs. We all love eggs in all of their various forms. Particularly poached though...

F is for... Frank Drebin, the greatest fictional lieutenant of our time. The original 'Police Squad' series is a stroke of genius.

G is for... Girls. Because they're better looking than men aren't they.

H is for... Hendrix. Hendrix was the boss. He totally changed the game.

I is for... Indian Food. Curries are our staple diet when we are out on tour. It's become an absolute necessity to sample the local curry house after a show. Standard Tandoori in Oxford is the current champion.

J is for... Joy Division. Technically not the greatest band, but the music they produced was so raw and powerful. Very influential!

K is for... Kraftwerk, the best electronic music group of all time, bar none. They did their own thing and did it amazingly!!

L is for... Lush. Our drummer, Dave, is a very big fan of 'Lush' handmade cosmetics. On tour he keeps a tin with many different types/flavours of soap in. Strange but true.

M is for... MIDI. Back into geek territory here! MIDI is such a big part of our performance and songwriting progress we couldn't leave it out. Thank you MIDI.

N is for... Nirvana, a huge band for all of us growing up.

O is for... O.P.P.You down with O.P.P?

P is for... Pedals. We have lots of effects pedals. I'm pretty sure we would sound terrible without them. Like The Edge in that Bill Bailey sketch.

Q is for... Quasimoto, Madlib's mischievous brick-wielding cartoon alter-ego. For an animated character he's a pretty serious force to be reckoned with.

R is for... Raging Bull, one of the best films ever made. De Niro really goes to town on this one.Timeless.

S is for... Stanley Kubrick. A master of his art-form. It doesn't get much better than this, if at all.

T is for... Texas. The only US state we have played in as a band. But what a place! I think we would genuinely move to Austin if we had the chance.

U is for... UFO: We're all believers.

V is for... Vegetables: An essential part of a healthy, balanced diet.

W is for... Werner Herzog. Slightly crazy German director responsible for such films as Aguirre-Wrath Of God and Fitzcarraldo. Top of his game and a big influence on many of the greatest.

X is for... X-Clan.Very underrated and very Afrocentric 1990's hip-hop crew.

Y is for... Your Mum. Take care of your Mum, for God's sake.

Z is for... Zelionople. Experimental drone type group from Chicago. Check them out as soon as possible!

Gallops' new single 'Joust'/'Eukodol' will be released on 15th August.
