A To Z: The Naked & Famous

Catchy vocals and pulsating synths galore

Posted 1st April 2011, 1:05pm in Features, by Harriet Jennings

Spiky, psychedelic indie-popsters The Naked & Famous have an answer for everything. Catchy vocals and pulsating synths galore are the order of the day in debut album 'Passive Me, Aggressive You' but we wanted to find out exactly what makes them tick. Harriet Jennings spoke to Jesse and Alisa to get the A to Z of New Zealand's latest export.

A is for... Airports. We've been passing through them a lot lately.

B is for... The Big Day Out. It's official that we lost our festival virginity in stinking heat while wearing too many clothes and not spending enough time in hotel pools.

C is for... Creating more bodies of work to show the world.

D is for... David Beadle's nonsensical sleep talking and wake up panics.

E is for... Electricity. If this dies on stage so do we. Zap.

F is for... Fiction Records. Our new home in the UK.

G is for... Gadgets. We love getting our grubby little mitts on new bits and pieces that can make or break sound.

H is for... Hello world. We will be seeing more of you in 2011.

I is for... Idiots that throw things at you on stage. A plague on all your houses!

J is for... Jazz. We have fully realised that we are not fans. We agree with Vince Noir. We don't get it. Scooba de bop bop...

K is for... Kids of 88. Our compatriots of the road.

L is for... Lodge Mastering. Our album was mastered by a girl. Go girl power!

M is for... Mindfuck. When you see it you'll shit bricks.

N is for... New Zealand, where we were all born.

O is for... Oscillators that roar.

P is for... Powers at work.

Q is for... Queens of the Stone Age through the desert.

R is for... Propellerhead - Reason.

S is for... Special Problems. The visual side to The Naked & Famous.

T is for... Trent Reznor - one of our heroes.

U is for... being Uncool. We don't have many friends.

V is for... Vortex. If you get stuck in one, ask Aaron for help. You'll probably find him in there somewhere.

W is for... Whammo! A popular catch phrase in the band.

X is for... Xayalith, it means 'Victory'.

Y is for... Young Blooded tomfoolery.

Z is for...Zombie. Apocalyptic video games

'Passive Me, Aggressive You' is out now.
