Richard, Copy Haho: Julian Lynch - 'Mare'

The second album "proper" from son of New Jersey - and fellow University of Aberdeen alumni, represent - Julian Lynch was definitely one of my favourite albums released this year. I guess you could call it a 'bedroom' album, but it's so much more ambitious and all-encompassing than the vast majority of bullshit "lo-fi" that's getting pushed around right now. I love how many twists and turns the album takes - for a start, anything that manages to pull off sleepy brass passages and face-ripping guitar solos generally gets my approval. Like a lot of recent releases, it seems to elicit a sense of nostalgia - only thankfully, in the case of 'Mare', I don't want to cave my own head in as a result.
