22 are gearing up to release their debut EP ‘Plastik’ on 4th July through Best Before Records (Sharks, Johnny Foreigner, Dananananaykroyd).

The four-piece rock outfit from Norway were born not so long ago from the ashes of Grammy Award winning band Gåte, and they made their first appearance over here in the UK at the Great Escape Festival back in May.

The EP was mixed by US producer, Machine (Lamb Of God, Fall Out Boy), whilst the video for the lead track ‘Plastik’ (which you can see below) was created by Stephen Agnew (White Lies, The Vaccines).

Here, you can not only listen to the EP prior to its release, but you can learn a bit about it too - the band have also given us a track by track run through.

1. Plastik
One of our early songs. It really epitomizes what "22" are about. It's all in there. A motherfucker to play live, and we love that!

2. Oxygen
A 'riffer' that became song somewhat. I feel awkwardly american every time I hear that chorus. The lyrics are about a friend of mine that is a compulsive stealer.

3. Gotodo
Thats our waltz. It's got lots of elements that I love: a synthguitar-solo, garageband-bent vocoder vocals, crisp string-sound (we almost changed strings for every section of the song). We really got to do what we wanted to with that song.

4. Mind vs Mind
A song about people getting into agitated and agressive discussions about facts and stuff they have read in the newspaper. I never understood how people could stir up so much emotion just to defend something they have read. It also includes lyrical homage to Edgar Allan Poe's short story 'The Man That Was Used Up.'

5. Power Is So Yesterday
Based around a riff that our drummer came up with. He recorded almost the entire song in one take, and the drums where left unedited, which created a loose and very human feel to the song. I was ready to marry our drummer after he did that take. It is a song about martyrdom, working extremely hard without loving what you do. Doing that feeds a very dark place inside oneself, and it is very addictive, and common.
