The Get Up Kids return next month with their new studio album, 'There Are Rules'. The band’s fifth full-length collection, and the first on their own Quality Hill Records imprint, it comes seven years after what looked to be their final record, 'Guilt Show'.
We got a preview of these new recordings last year, when the Kansas City five piece released their EP 'Simple Science', and now we have another snippet with the below exclusive teaser video for 'Shatter Your Lungs'.
We've also got a bit of commentary from none other than Matt Pryor:
"I don't really have anything much to say about the clip. My cousin makes weird fucking videos and we thought it would be cool to have him do something. We gave him free rein. It's mostly vintage porn clips to my understanding. The story behind the song - When I was senior in high school my folks went out of town for a week and left us in charge. My buddy and I were most likely wearing suits, drinking coffee and watching "Reservoir Dogs" again (don't ask) when we heard a loud crash from outside the back window of the house. My brother and his best friend were up on our roof smoking and it seemed that his friend had fallen off the roof. He was in pain but seemed in pretty good shape for having fallen on the roof so we got him gathered up and into the house. But it seemed this kid had run away from home and was hiding out at our house. He refused to go home or to the hospital. After another day he was in so much pain that we finally got him to call an Aunt and take him to the hospital. Turns out the crash had punctured his left lung. Technically it didn't shatter but "shout it out, puncture your lung" didn't have the same ring to it."
