Thomas Tantrum are preparing to head out on the road with Glasvegas next week before commencing their own headline tour in June. We went sunbathing in the park with the Southampton band to find a little bit more about their firsts and lasts.
Instrument you learnt to play? - Jim
First: I started off drums originally but my mum got rid of the drum kit after a while because it was too noisy. So then I has an acoustic guitar.
Last: Bass.
Time you played live? - Dave WB
First: I can't remember who it was supporting but I was 14 and it was at The Joiners in Southampton.
Last: On Sunday at Koko. That's quite a big jump.
Song you wrote? - Megan
First: The first song I wrote was called 'Funky Monkey', and the chorus goes, "Why, why, why am I so funky?" It's pretty good.
Last: The last one was a song called 'Glory Hunter', which is going to be the b-side for our next single.
Time you entered a recording studio? - Dave WB
First: The first time we went to a proper recording studio where we had to pay for it, rather than have students do it for us was definitely Gizzard in London. It was like a full analog studio.
Last: The last was Real World. Well, it was my bedroom but Real World is probably a bit more exciting than that.
Record that inspired you? - Jim
First: For me, it's probably stuff like Gene Vincent and old rockabillly stuff like that for my first inspiration to play guitar.
Last: Nowadays, I don't wanna answer that really. I did rave on about Ariel Pink's last album for quite a long time so that's probably my last inspiration.
Musician you met? - Megan
First: I met David Bowie once. Although they say that I didn't. I saw him in Southampton high street. He wasn't in a car, he walked past me. I said 'hi' and he didn't say anything.
Last: Peter Gabriel at Real World.
Gig you went to? - David M
First: It was Terrorvision supported by Feeder.
Last: I went to see Kurt Vile in New York, that was a good one!
Format you bought music in? - Jim
First: Definitely cassette
Last: The last thing I bought was vinyl, I've gone backwards in time.
