I have always been a fan of comics and graphic novels. The boldness of the illustration has always caught my eye, and has inspired me in my own artwork. My personal favourites are the Sin City series, the drawing is incredible.
Comics are quite influential in our culture, for example through films and at the moment even political activism, with V for Vendetta masks showing up at every protest.
I thought it would be cool to put some of my songs into a comic like format, as my lyrics are quite image heavy and occasionally have a bit of a narrative. So I asked a couple of friends to do their own interpretations through illustration for my last two singles. 'Deep Water Heartbreaker' was illustrated by Lauren Humphrey, and more recently, 'Cold Hard Rock' by Max Kinghorn Mills. Both have different styles of drawing but they reflect the vibe of the songs perfectly.
'Cold Hard Rock' has been drawn into a story about Foe and her lover's affair. Her tears cause a tidal wave which sweeps him out to sea, and she is left waiting on the rocks forever, slowly losing her mind...
These are available to buy, along with a download of the single. I want people to have something special, not just an invisible mp3, and these really bring the songs to life.
