Kaiser Chiefs: How ‘The Future Is Medieval’ Works

There's twenty tracks, but the album is only ten, and you pick which? Confused? Let us explain.

It's one thing to wake up to a new Kaiser Chiefs album, it's another one entirely to be told you'll actually have to think about it. We should know - what you're going to be doing today, DIY Towers had to do 24 hours previously - and it took us all day to make our final decision.

So, fact time. Kaiser Chiefs new album 'The Future Is Medieval' is out, erm, now. Yes - not after months of press mumbles, but less than a week after our first listen to lead track 'Little Shocks'. The record has twenty tracks available. Available, you ask? Here's the hook - you design your own album. Listen to 60 second clips, pick ten tracks, stick them in order, design your own artwork then download. You can even share your version with your mates and make your money back, like some slightly less dodgy musical pyramid scheme. Radiohead, eat your heart out.

Step by step, here's how you go about designing your album:

First up, you need to pick your tracks. You can preview all of the tracks by clicking on the objects on the shelves. Once you know you want one, drag one of the cables into the socket below to select. You can swap about at will, so don't worry. You'll be clicking back and forward to this page quite a lot as you change your mind.

Once that's done, you design your artwork. The icons for the ten tracks you selected (yes, those items on the shelves meant something - Ed) are available to drag, resize and rotate on a canvas. You can change the background too.

Once that's done you'll be able to create an account and buy your album. You'll then be given tools to share your creation with the wider world, and get £1 for every copy sold. Strong arm a few mates and it'll pay for itself. Result!

You can check out DIY's version of 'The Future Is Medieval' here, and grab a copy of your own here.
