Denmark's Giana Factory are releasing their debut LP 'Save The Youth' through Fake Diamond Records next Monday (7th May), so we asked them to talk us through the follow up to their 2009 EP 'Bloody Game' track by track, along with popping us together a cheeky exclusive stream.
1. Mexican
Lost and longing. The lyrics were written on a long bus drive through the Mexican desert. The production is inspired by a cinematic mode.
2. Rainbow Girl
The song that defined our sound on 'Save The Youth' with the atmospheric guitar, gloomy vocals, synth bass and kickdrum. We were in heaven when we found this sound together.
3. Pixelated Truth
The virtual world and the journey into it. This song inspired us to the album title - "By the way somebody, please Save The Youth"
4. Dirty Snow
'Dirty Snow' is inspired by harsh industrialism, dirt, distorted sound and hypnosis. The song was written on a bike ride in cold snowy Copenhagen and is about something forbidden.
5. Mountain
The fragile feeling of facing the heights of life. It has a simple way of using sounds and only a few instruments, this song has a way of telling a story that reminds us of folk music or children's rhymes.
6. Joy and Deception
We love to perform this song live, where we have a drum part where all of us share one beat, and all play one drum. Three girls, one drum. It's a dark song, yet there is hope!
7. Darkness
We wanted to experiment with the dark side of Giana Factory. The hidden darkness and the untold play a huge part in our music. Darkness was written mostly by sampling and remixing each others sketches and ideas, cutting down to the bone, in some weird collective way.
8. Sylphied Dies
This song began with a banjo sketch and developed into a soundscape of melodies. We worked on building layers, melodies chasing each other. The universe of the lyrics was created and inspired by old nature books from the 70s, but the sound, rhythm and the visual association is more important than what meaning there might be.
9. Dive
We like the energetic drive in this song. It's good for a long road trip! We experimented a lot with a circuit bent Casio keyboard on this song, which makes weird sounds from out of space.
10. Change of Heart
Kind of a playground where all sounds and melodies naturally became the leading role of the song. Sometimes you can´t really control when a song suddenly leaves you and seek its own ways.
Giana Factory's new album 'Save The Youth' will be released on 7th May via Fake Diamond Records.
