Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
Fleet Foxes make a triumphant return this week with 'Helplessness Blues', a taster of their forthcoming album. Frontman Robin Pecknold perfectly captures the shuddering realisation that he's just "a functioning cog in some great machinery, serving something beyond me", yet those glorious harmonies comfort us. Midway, the hearty, speedy acoustics are interrupted by a sudden pop in speed, replaced instead by reverb guitar licks tumbling beneath the earthy vocal collective, with Pecknold proclaiming with tender authenticity - "If I had an orchard, I'd work 'till I'm sore".
