Chris Evans Replacing James Franco In The Iceman

Captain America to play Michael Shannon's mentor in the mob movie.

Chris Evans has replaced James Franco in The Iceman, report Deadline.

With Franco juggling so many projects, something had to give, and now Captain America himself will co-star with Michael Shannon in Ariel Vromen's film.

An adaptation of Anthony Bruno’s book The Iceman: The True Story Of A Cold-Blooded Killer, it tells of mob contract killer Richard Kuklinski (Shannon) and his double life as a loving family man. Evans will play his mentor Robert Pronge, also known as Mr Softee. Maggie Gyllenhaal is on board to play Kuklinski's wife, and Ray Liotta for mob boss Roy Demeo. David Schwimmer is reportedly in talks for a fellow assassin.

Danika and Simple Lies director Vromen aims to start shooting next month. Evans has reprised his role as Steve Rogers for The Avengers, having recently starred in rom com What's Your Number.
