Two of the most exciting actors working today have signed up for a unique film project.
Deadline have a press release from Myriad Pictures, who announce the casting of two films: The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers.
Both will star Jessica Chastain and Joel Edgerton as a New York City couple, with the two films showing the difficulties in their marriage from each partner's perspective. Edgerton will play a restaurant owner whose wife (Chastain) goes back to college. William Hurt is in discussions to join them.
Ned Benson, whose previous work includes short films, wrote the two scripts and will direct both films. He currently has In Defiance of Gravity in production, with both the scripts for this and Rigby on Hollywood's Black List of great screenplays.
Kirk D’Amico, CEO of Myriad Pictures, said: "Ned has created rich and engaging characters. They are complex, and it is unique to have two different scripts to tell the story. It doesn’t matter which script you read first, you absolutely want to read the other perspective."
He then referred to the challenges they face distributing the film, which will be sold at Berlin this month. "It is possible to consider making films in a completely different way than the single production method one film at a time. We’re intrigued also to work with our distributors to discover what kind of releasing and promotional options may arise."
D’Amico pointed out both films will be stand-alone movies: "We have to make both films work on their own, both for the buyers but also for the audiences. Together these films will describe a fully, more complete look at these characters and their lives."
Chastain has enjoyed a phenomenal year which has culminated in an Oscar nomination for The Help. Other roles included Coriolanus, Take Shelter, Texas Killing Fields, The Debt and her break-out role in Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life.
Australian actor Edgerton made a name in 2011 with critical hit Animal Kingdom, going on to star in Warrior and The Thing. With Wish You Were Here and The Odd Life of Timothy Green coming this year, he is set to make a big impression as Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.
