The Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn, North London, is to host a special season of international films leading up to the Oscars.

The celebrated arts venue is to showcase the best international film submissions to this year's Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. It runs from Tuesday 14th to Thursday 23rd February, ahead of the Oscars themselves on the 26th.

The season explores the wide range of world cinema on offer from social realism (Beyond, Sweden) and animation (Tatsumi, Singapore) through to thrilling horrors (The Silent House, Uruguay). Highlights include: 2012 Golden Globe winner A Separation (Iran), a moral drama focusing on a couple’s failing marriage; the UK Premiere for Argentinian film Aballay, an intense drama about revenge; and Wim Wenders’ balletic masterpiece on the famous choreographer and dancer, Pina (Germany).

The programme will include special preview screenings of Once Upon A Time In Anatolia (Turkey) and Breathing (Austria) as well as Q&As with Lithuanian director Kristijonas Vildžiūnas (Back To Your Arms), Romanian actor Andras Hathazi (Morgen) and Swiss cinematographer Lorenz Merz (Summer Games).

Other screenings include: Miss Bala (Mexico), a story of gangland poverty in Tijuana; Footnote (Israel), a film about a struggle between a father and son; As If I Am Not There (Ireland), detailing the horrors of ethnic cleansing; Beauty (South Africa), a portrait of disturbing obsession; Mentevideo (Serbia), a look at the events leading upto the Yugoslavian football team’s participation in the 1930 football World Cup; Attenberg (Greece), a tale of sexual awakening; and Rumble Of Stones (Venezuela), a single mother’s struggle to raise her family in adverse circumstances.

Nicolas Kent, Artistic Director of the Tricycle says: "Following the success of the Tricycle's first International Oscar season in 2011, we are delighted that this year's celebration of international cinema will be even bigger, offering London's culturally diverse cinema-going audience an opportunity, not only to celebrate their own countries on screen, but to see films from all over the world. Unfortunately it is still the case that many of the Foreign Language film entries to the Oscars are never screened in the UK, and it is wonderful to give audiences the chance to enjoy some of the finest films from all over the world."
