Mark Wahlberg is to produce and star in The Partner, an adaptation of John Grisham's 1997 book.

The story follows a disgruntled lawyer who embezzles from his firm and fakes his own death, with his plan naturally going awry. With writer and director John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) coming and going from the project, Variety report Wahlberg and his producing partner Stephen Levinson (Contraband, Entourage) are on the hunt for a replacement.

Grisham's novels were adapted into several hit films during the '90s: The Firm, The Pelican Brief, The Client, A Time To Kill, The Chamber, The Rainmaker and Runaway Jury. The Firm has recently been remade into a television drama starring Josh Lucas.

The very busy Wahlberg will next be seen in Seth McFarlane's dark comedy Ted and cop thriller Broken City with Russell Crowe. He's currently shooting Michael Bay's relatively low-key true story Pain and Gain, starring opposite Dwayne Johnson as a couple of steroid-abusing weightlifters who get involved in kidnapping and murder.
