Natalie Portman Cast In Terrence Malick’s Films

First roles since her Oscar win for Black Swan.

Natalie Portman has picked her first roles since winning an Oscar and becoming a mother.

The Black Swan star has joined the casts of the next two films from Terrence Malick.

Deadline reveal Portman will star alongside Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas in Knight of Cups this summer. Portman, Bale and Blanchett will then return for the director to shoot Lawless in the autumn, which co-stars Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett.

The plots for both films are typically under wraps, but Bale was recently spotted with Malick at the Austin City Limits festival, where he told fans his character was "an asshole". Even though the films share actors, they have been described as two separate narratives.

Malick, who recently came out of hibernation for last year's acclaimed The Tree of Life, has two other films on the way. There's documentary Voyage Of Time and a currently-untitled romance starring Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams.
