Colombiana and Transporter 3 helmer for New York action thriller.

Taken 2 director Olivier Megaton is to direct action thriller Taking Gotham.

Guaranteed to prick up the ears of any Batman fan, Thomas Kelly's script is based on actual events that took place in New York City, about a secret unit of the NYPD created to tackle a number of violent robberies. After a sting operation that turns deadly, the unit are disavowerd and forced to go underground to clear their names.

Nicolai Fuglsig (Brass Monkey) was previously attached to direct, but Deadline report the job has gone to Megaton, whose previous films include the Besson-produced Colombiana and Transporter 3.

Filming will begin in March.
