What are we looking forward to playing next year?

2012 is set to be a belter of a year for games – we can only imagine the amazing technological advances that'll go into FIFA 13 in which the ball will actually smell like a real ball using the all-new Ball Stink Generator system. But, here's the top five we're looking forward to the most for the year ahead! Get saving, kids.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Square Enix)

β€œHey, guys, let's make a new Final Fantasy game! It's one after part thirteen, so it's part thirteen part two, right?” And rightly so! Taking place three years after the events of Final Fantasy XIII, the game's perfect-haired protagonist Lightning has disappeared into an unknown world. It's up to Noel Kreiss and Lightning's sister Serah Ferron to find her! The game's already been released to drooling reviews in Japan and it'll hit North America at the end of January. The rest of us will have to wait a few more days to get our hands on it though.
Released 03/02/12 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Hitman: Absolution (Square Enix)

The return of Agent 47 pioneers the rebirth of baldy coolness even more than re-introducing Grant Mitchell to Albert Square ever could. With an emphasis on choice, the new story sees the poor fella framed and betrayed by those he trusted. Hunted by the fuzz, he finds himself in the middle of a dark conspiracy forcing him to embark on a personal journey through a corrupt and twisted world, in search of the truth.
Release TBC

The Darkness II (2K Games)

We believe in a thing called love – and quad-wielding weaponry. This is one sequel we've been waiting on for a LONG time. Well, since 2007. The return of Jackie Estacado sees him utilising multiple creature-arms called the Darklings which, this time round, have more interaction within the game. Including being able to torture your enemies in a way standard weapons just won't. Oh, yes
Released 10/02/12 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Mass Effect 3 (EA)

Slick sci-fi coolness where we hope and pray we can use the same deformed Shepard we've had all along. The story finale also promises a multiplayer mode!
Released 09/03/12 for Xbox 360. PS3 and PC.

Yakuza: Dead Souls (SEGA)

Even the Yakuza series isn't immune to zombie infestation. Definitely hoping that we'll get to own a zombie and dress him up like a hostess in a bizarre change of pace for a series that can be a gender minefield. Its release last year in Japan heralded some heartfelt reviews that called it "OK for what it is", and we do worry that bringing zombies to the world of Yakuza seems like a step in the wrong direction. But then we think - it's SEGA, it's Japanese, and it's Yakuza. IT CAN'T POSSIBLY GO WRONG!
Released 16/03/12 for PS3.

And there's plenty more where they came from! These are all from the start of the year and sequels. There's a whole YEAR to get through! When's Half Life 3 due?! 2012, ladies and gents, is gonna be a good 'un! Happy new year, everyone!
