Here at DIY, it'd be a crime if we didn't look into independent developers and so we're committed to trawling through the good and the bad on Xbox Live's Indie Community so you don't have to.

Here's our pick of the latest bunch of indie software you can download now!

Notebook Adventures - 80 Points

You'll be guiding your little geeky Cecil Jenkins around the hand-drawn chic of Notebook Adventures, collecting money and keys to progress through gorgeously drawn notebook page levels. It suffers from frustrating character movement, but there's enough charm and beauty to keep you from erasing that little cocky shit.

The Most Addicting Sheep Game - 80 Points

This cutesey side-scrolling platformer relies on a mixture of rhythm and button-bashing skills. Bouncing your sheep up platforms and rolling him through columns of black sheep bastards, all on the beat of the most irritating and, simultaneously, catchy little ditties ever made, the whole package is enormous fun. It's not just a clever name, it's tough to think of one other sheep game that we're this fond of. Sheep In Space? Grand Theft Sheep? Sheep Effect 2!

INDIE GAME TOP PICK - Swamp Defense - 80 Points

We know what you're going to say. ANOTHER tower defence game? ANOTHER ONE?! Yes. Shut up. This time you're fending off slimy swamp shits of various shapes and speeds with inappropriately dressed rednecks wielding guns, glue and a bunch of other dangerous household weapons. This is a knowing wink that brings a bit of humour to the tired tower defence genre. You'll remember why they were so popular in the first place. And, well, we're not going to lie to you – we never got fed up of them, so this is an excellent and welcome addition.

WTF WAS THAT AWARD - Sol Intelligence - 80 Points

Right, get this – you guide a puff-cloud thing around a crudely drawn column-type maze avoiding big freaky bad tripods and terrifying stray wiring. It all kind of looks like it's been stealing bits of graphics from old Master System games and using them out of context. It's a run-of-the-mill platformer, but its truly confusing edge and Electric Russell soundtrack is worth the brain-pain.

AVOID LIKE RABIES - Retrocade: DataStream Y2K600 - 80 Points

A bunch of old-school arcade-style games housed in the most awful looking package ever. Nothing at all wrong with the classic gameplay, but the whole schtick of it being about good data and bad data in the form of green and red blocks is an annoying, if imaginative, one. Basically playing Frogger with a block is actually worse than just playing Frogger. Its selling point is its lack of fancy graphics and the unadulterated joy of classic gaming, but when the classic games themselves are more aesthetically attractive than it, it's probably not going to be your first choice.
