Class of 2008: Errors

First On

'I own a samurai sword but I'm NOT EVEN A FUCKING SAMURAI.'

Errors It's 2008: and no, we're not sure where the last twelve months went either. What we are fairly certain about, however, is that it popped up more than a couple of ace bands for us to get all excited about.

We've taken the best of the bunch that got DIY Towers buzzing and quizzed them about both themselves and what they might get up to in the next 12 months. Not universally sure fire bets for unit shifting superstardom, we're expecting good things from them all.

Someone ring the bell, then. The Class of 2008 is in.

Glaswegian electro-rockers Errors burst in to the public (or at least non-Scottish) consciousness following the release of debut EP 'How Clean Is Your Acid House' back last February. 'Salut! France' followed, gaining the band a place on Renaissance's 'Future Club Classics' compilation alongside the likes of Simian Mobile Disco and Gossip. They have also supported 90s dance stalwarts Underworld on tour.

We spoke to drummer (yes, drummer!) James Hamilton.

Who are you, and what do you do?
I'm James Hamilton, I play drums and I'm the interviewee drummer of olde Glasgow town.

Lazily, compare yourselves to at least three well-ish-known bands in a semi-comical way.
Mogwai and two other bands who probably sound really like MOGWAI.

What's the best thing about being in a band so far?
Touring the UK with Underworld; it was an exact, actual fucking blast and they and their whole tour crew are the nicest, coolest people you could ever meet. Being drunk for 72 consecutive hours in Finland, including an all-night party with Apparat, runs a close second.

...and what's the worst?
Being the auxiliary fourth member of a band whom people refer to by saying "oh wait, they've got a *drummer*?".

Why do you think 2008 is going to be a great year for Errors?
It's been great the last couple of years so I'm thinking good things come in threes. Maybe that's dead celebrities though.

Are you making any new years' resolutions?
I don't even know what a 'year' is, never mind a new one.

If people were to listen to just one of your songs, which one would you hope it was and why?
One of the ones I play drums on, the reason being that I play drums on it. Admittedly in a live context that's all of them. Okay, actually 'Toes' off the new album because there aren't enough spacky-electro-math-rock-samba songs in the world and more people should be given the opportunity to appreciate them.

Where do you hope to be in twelve months' time?
In a better place psychologically, financially and fashionably.

What's the worst piece of advice anyone's ever given you?
"You're good at doing interviews, I think you should do them more often." - Simin Ward, Errors.

If Errors were to have a motto, what would it be?
It would be your Gran's Motto.

What would be your reaction if someone were to cover one of your songs on X Factor?
I wouldn't know about it because I don't watch or own a television.

Do you have an album in the pipeline?
We have an album which will be out in early 2008, which currently is untitled but I'm lobbying for 'Statutory Rave' as a title.

Who'd be your dream producer to work with?
John Cummings (aaaw because we ALREADY HAVE, see? BONUS SUCKING-UP POINTS!). Seriously though, John's awesome. JC-OK.

Remixes are, it would seem, 'all the rage'. Who would you just love to remix one of your tracks?
Underworld or Ellen Allien. I'd settle for either with a huge big fucking grin on my face.

What does it take to be a fan of Errors?
A great deal of patience.

What's the weirdest thing anyone's done at one of your gigs?
Danced.

Tell us something random yet interesting about you.
I own a samurai sword but I'm NOT EVEN A FUCKING SAMURAI.

You're part of the DIY Class of 2008 - what was your favourite subject at school?
Trying in vain to impress girls by being in a band. Now I've made a career out of it! And they say nobody learns anything in school any more, pfft.
