Class Of 2008: Heads We Dance
''Don't bore us, get straight to the chorus!''

It's 2008: and no, we're not sure where the last twelve months went either. What we are fairly certain about, however, is that it popped up more than a couple of ace bands for us to get all excited about. We've taken the best of the bunch that got DIY Towers buzzing and quizzed them about both themselves and what they might get up to in the next 12 months. Not universally sure fire bets for unit shifting superstardom, we're expecting good things from them all.
Someone ring the bell, then. The Class of 2008 is in.
Heads We Dance are named after a Kate Bush lyric. They don't sound like Kate Bush. The influences it's easier to spot are the electronic ones; Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and Human League, to name an obvious three. The band, who formed back in 2006, played their first show three weeks after forming, and released a 12" remix taster single of 'Love In The Digital Age' last year - their first single proper will be released very soon indeed.
Who are you, and what do you do?
We are Heads We Dance, we write "custom-chromed, aerodynamic pop music".
Lazily, compare yourselves to at least three well-ish-known bands in a semi-comical way.
Semi-comical? Are you trying to get us to do your job for you? The bands are Daft Punk, Pet Shop Boys and Klaxons. You're the journalist - make your own jokes!
What's the best thing about being in a band so far?
Getting to work with people we really admire - we've just co-produced the first few tracks of our album with Simon Gogerly who's worked with New Order, U2 and Gwen Stefani. It's been really enjoyable; he's sat there surrounded by gold records and Grammy awards and he still listens to our ridiculous ideas about how we think our records should sound!
...and what's the worst?
Playing gigs with dull, derivative indie rock bands. We've heard it a million times already!
Why do you think 2008 is going to be a great year for Heads We Dance?
2008 will be the year people will get tired of hearing those same sounds for the millionth time! It's time for something fresh and that's us.
If people were to listen to just one of your songs, which one would you hope it was and why?
'Love In The Digital Age'. Why? Because it's going to be our début single and we want to shamelessly self-promote it.
Where do you hope to be in twelve months' time?
Touring on a stage that is shaped like our logo, like Prince.
What's the worst piece of advice anyone's ever given you?
Put your life savings with Northern Rock.
If Heads We Dance were to have a motto, what would it be?
"Don't bore us, get straight to the chorus!"
What would be your reaction if someone were to cover one of your songs on X Factor?
Kerr-ching!!
Do you have an album in the pipeline?
Yes, we have the first few tracks recorded. It'll hopefully be out some time in 2008.
Who'd be your dream producer to work with?
We currently produce ourselves and working with us has been like a dream come true. But if we were to choose someone else, Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo from Daft Punk would be great.
Remixes are, it would seem, 'all the rage'. Who would you just love to remix one of your tracks?
We're massive fans of Tepr and he recently remixed 'Love In The Digital Age' for us which was absolutely amazing! We actually released it as a limited edition 12". We'd really like to work with KIM from The Presets too, who's been knocking out some great remixes recently.
What does it take to be a fan of Heads We Dance?
Ears!
What's the weirdest thing anyone's done at one of your gigs?
Well, we had a 50-year -old Chinese guy body-popping at one. He could really move .
Tell us something random yet interesting about you.
Bex, our drummer's dad used to drum for Ultravox.
You're part of the DIY Class of 2008 - what was your favourite subject at school?
Our music's quite high-tech so how about Technology.
