Iceland Airwaves: Fuck Buttons
Andrew and Benjamin tell us why they're looking forward to Iceland.
This week sees the return of Iceland Airwaves for its 10th anniversary bash in Reykjavik. To celebrate, we've grabbed some of the bands playing to do a quick Q&A. Today sees us getting answers from Fuck Buttons.
Hello Fuck Buttons! How are you?
Andrew Hung: Fine thank you. Loving la vida loca.
Benjamin John Power: Great thank you.
You're just about to play at Iceland Airwaves - have you been to Iceland before?
Andrew: Nope, and I'm really looking forward to it. Iceland has produced so much unique music; music who's environment it was made in, you can almost see. It feels like i've been there, put it that way.
Benjamin: I have never been to Iceland before but I am thoroughly excited about it. It's one of two places that I've always dreamed of going to. Iceland for the beauty and magnificence and Japan (being the other place) for the culture shock and intensity.
Will it be your last festival of the year?
Andrew: No, we're playing Unsound in Poland as well in a week's time.
Are there any bands you're particularly looking forward to seeing?
Andrew: I wouldn't mind seeing Junior Boys, they're friends of a good friend of ours, although we've never met them ourselves.
Benjamin: I'm looking forward to watching alot of the Icelandic music that I have never heard before. there are lots of names of the list that I am unaware of and am eager to see what they're up to.
Does your set clash with anyone you'd rather it didn't?
Andrew: I don't think so. But to be honest, it's always exciting to go to festivals where you haven't heard of most of the bands. The potential to surprise is greater.
Benjamin: Yeah we could be clashing with something fantastic but wouldn't necessarily know about it as we might not have heard the band before. That's the nature of festivals sometimes. It's all one big surprise.
Will you be debuting any new material whilst you're there?
Andrew: Yes we will. We are constantly changing our set, so even as we speak, the set may change from this instance.
And finally, when will you next be playing in the UK?
Andrew: We will be playing a sleuth of shows with our friends Mogwai, in Edinburgh, Manchester and London. It's going to be a blast!
