With an album in the works and a new single set to hit shelves within the next few weeks, we'll be seeing a lot more of It Hugs Back very soon. We caught up with Matt and Jack to see how everything's going.
Hello It Hugs Back! How are you today?
Matt: Hi. Pretty good thank you. How are you?
Jack: Enjoying the sun and also the rain which cooled everything down last night!
Your album is now nearly finished - how's it sounding? Is it turning out how you expected?
Matt: I think it's developed more of a mood and sound than I expected it too, but it's something that happened on its own so I think it sounds good for it... we've been mixing for the last few weeks so it's really close to being done now... strange feeling after what became quite a drawn out and mountainous recording process...
Have you got a title for it yet?
Matt: We do! Although its not definite just yet so I can't say any more I'm afraid.
We really like you're new single 'Work Day' - is it representative of what will be on the album?
Matt: I'm not sure it'll be on the album. The reason that it isn't such a good representation is why I wanted it to be a single and also why it's looking unlikely it'll be on the record.
What's the video for it like? Will we get to see it soon?
Matt: It's a surreal, theatrical day in the life of us as we work in a puppet making factory... well, I think it's loosely that! I haven't seen it yet but it was lots of fun filming it, hoping it turns out as it showed it might... should be good!
Jack: I'm looking forward to seeing it too. The single will be coming out around September, so the video should be available sometime around then.
Last time we spoke, you said you were hoping to tour outside the UK during 2008 - how's that going for you? Have you played anywhere abroad yet?
Matt: Not yet. We've done a couple of small tours around England but we've been spending as much time recording for the first half of this year as possible. After the Summer it looks like we'll be out and about all over the place!
If you could hug anyone in the world, dead or alive (but preferably alive, or it would be a bit gross), who would you choose and why?
Matt: Blimey. Maybe Stay Puft... think it'd be quite... amiable.
And finally, What are your plans for the rest of 2008?
Jack: We've got Bestival to look forward to in September and then a UK tour lined up throughout October, playing with Rod Thomas. Should be good fun.
Matt: Fun it shall be. There be no better reason.
