McFly

We met up with the boys at their record company HQ, and asked them a selection of your questions...

McFly Last week we asked for your questions to ask McFly. They've had an amazing 2005, and with the release of DVD 'Wonderland Tour 2005: Live In Manchester', and their next arena tour already sold out, it looks like 2006 might just be even better. We met up with the boys at their record company HQ, and asked them a selection of your questions...

Were you a bit gutted you didn't get to Number One, and the Arctic Monkeys beat you?
Harry: Is that what the fans wanted to know? [hand gesture towards dictaphone]
Tom: Well you should have bought more singles, shouldn't you?
Danny: Yeah but Tom, it was quite nice to be beaten by someone who's actually any good!
Tom: Yeah, because noone 'wins', and our album's been out ages anyway. People would tell us what was out the same week as us, and noone even mentioned Arctic Monkeys - we didn't actually know it was coming out! So when it got to Number One it was a real shock. I think it's a really good thing because everyone was guessing some r'n'b and hip-hop thing was going to be Number One that week, and it's great that a british band got it.

What's the most embarrassing CD you have?
Harry: Savage Garden
Tom: I've got the Dawson's Creek soundtrack. I quite like it.
Harry: I've got Pink. It's not on my iPod though, I've just got the CD. I don't really have Savage Garden...
Danny: I don't have one!
Dougie: I've got Slipknot's album. I actually quite like the first one, they're cool.
Harry: You think that's embarrassing do you? Next thing you know, clown face will be knocking on your door "What's this I hear...?"

We'll put that on the site you know: 'McFly Hate Slipknot'
Harry: No! Don't you dare! I think they're fucking amazing! Epic drummer.
Tom: I've seen them rocking out. I've actually seen them on TV playing live.
Harry: You've seen them on TV?
Tom: I've seen them on TV, on Smile. They were fucking awesome, but I think I have to admit, I don't think I'd want to go to one of their gigs because I'd shit my pants.
Harry: You think we'd get killed? Well, they probably would if we got recognised at one of their gigs, they'd probably sacrifice one of us!
Tom: It'd be, like, on stage!
Danny: Crucify us!
Harry: Sacrifice... I don't think they'd prepare a wooden cross for us...
Tom: Sacrifice us to the devil.

What bands or songs do you like at the moment?
Tom: A band called Jellyfish, their album's called 'Spilt Milk', it's a really good album. And Green Day's live album that just came out - that's really good.
Harry: There's a band called Avenged Sevenfold that I think are going to be really big this year. I mean, they're emerging, and they're doing quite well already. Their song is the most requested song in America on the rock radio stations. So watch out for them - quote me on that: Harry McFly, Avenged Sevenfold.
Tom: Also Incubus, they're really good.
Danny: I knew the song 'open arms' from college, a few of my mates learned to play it and had the album.
Harry: You mean 'Drive'?

Describe Girls Aloud in one word?
All: [immediately, in unison] Fit!

Do you think you've become rock n' roll since you first started out?
Harry: Well our first song was about five colours in her hair, and now we're talking about how we want to hold people, so...
Tom: I think probably not actually, we were probably more rock n' roll back then.
Danny: Yeah, we were. We've calmed down a lot! Oh, the things we used to do...

Who's the most famous person you've got in your mobile phone?
Danny: Chris Evans
Harry: Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, Samuel L, Frank Skinner? What's he doing in there?
Danny: Oh, Roger Daltrey. He's cool. He's my favourite number.
Harry: I haven't got anyone really. Oh, I've got Fearne's [Cotton]. We prank call her.

Where do you see yourselves in ten year's time?
Tom: I don't know where we'll be, hopefully recording a new album.
Danny: Hopefully I'll have two kids in the country, chillin' out... How old will we be in ten years?
Harry: Living in the country? You'll leave your kids in the country?
Danny: No, I said I'll have a nice family, I'll have a nice house in the country.
Tom: He said 'and I'll have two kids living in the country'! Yeah, I'll have two kids and put them in the country. Let them go in the wild.
Harry: You missed the comma! 'I'll have two kids, living in the country'. 'Don't eat the red berries, they're poisonous'
Tom: Don't drink from the stream, make sure you filter it!
Harry: Make a filter out of leaves...

What's your main highlight of 2005?
Danny: There's been too many, we can't pick.
Tom: Having a Number One album, recording with Roger Daltrey, winning a Brit Award, going to Africa, doing the Comic Relief single, doing the Live 8 shows...
Danny: You name it, we've done it.

What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done?
Tom: Probably our first video. I actually feel ill when I see it. Physically ill.

What made you decide to cover Kaiser Chiefs?
Tom: We went and did the Live Lounge on Radio 1, and we have to cover a song on their playlist, a recent song.
Danny: ...and we'd just been watching them live.
Tom: No we didn't, we went and saw them that night!
Danny: Oh, did we?
Tom: Yeah, and Danny was singing it at the time, remember he kept singing it?
Harry: What?
Tom: Yeah, he was singing 'I Predict A Riot' all the time...
Danny: Oh yeah, cos I had a dance!
Tom: Yeah, when we were at Paul O'Grady I was like, why don't we cover 'I Predict A Riot'
Tom: Plus it's a really fucking good song. We ended up seeing them that night and they were awesome, they were really good.

What's the one thing you'd each like to open on Christmas Day this year?
Danny: [no hesitation] A fit girl's legs.
Harry: Danny! There are three women in the room none of whom you've met before, you can't say that!
Danny: Don't start!
Harry: What would you like to open at Christmas? [in blokey voice] 'Girls legs'... 'uh, and a can of beer'... fucking hell.
