It's been a while since we heard from My Psychoanalyst, so we dropped them a line to see how they were and what they were up to since the addition of their two new members - Justin and Dani.
Hello My Psychoanalyst! How are you today?
We're fine thanks! Just enjoying the British summer and utilising the free internet in a Cafe.
You seem to have been quite quiet lately - what have you been up to?
Well, we've just been getting used to being a five piece to be honest. The new members we've gained have brought about quite a change to the sound and dynamic so we've just been adjusting our tiny brains to it really! It's all coming together again now though.
Your last single was released almost exactly a year ago - are there any definite plans for another?
We've been writing a lot of stuff of late and we decided that, instead of rushing out the first thing we'd recorded and regretting it later, we'd rather have more choice as to exactly what we could release. There's nothing concrete yet but we'd like to get something out, maybe an ep, before the year draws to an end.
How does the new material you've been working on compare to what you were producing this time last year?
It's strange really. We've never been completely set on a particular sound so things do change quite often and go through stages. Obviously though, with the new line-up, the change has probably been more drastic than before. I think the songs we're writing now are probably more thought out but that's all that links them. Some are probably noisier than previous tracks but by the same token, others can be poppier.
You seem to have played a few times with (DIY favourites) Johnny Foreigner and Dananananakroyd. Who've been your favourite bands you've played with recently?
We played with Tubelord in Nottingham recently and they were great. Also from round our parts, Wander Phantom make a pretty mighty racket!
And finally, are there any new bands you'd recommend? Who do you think will be big over the next year?
I think Johnny Foreigner are going to keep growing and growing and Tubelord will probably be hot on their heels. We all listen to a lot of different stuff but the new record from Wye Oak is absolutely incredible if you like your pop noisy.
