The Broken Family Band describe themselves as "just men doing some music". We reckon that's a little bit humble; they're more than ace. So good, in fact, we thought we'd catch up for a quick chat. Wahey! You all have day jobs, do you ever wish you could do the 'band thing' fulltime?
Sometimes. There are more important things to wish for though. I dunno about the others but I'm very happy right now. Most of my friends have jobs - you stick with what you know, right? - so I've just got something else going on. Its brilliant, although obviously it gets tiring and confusing sometimes. I'm a lucky boy though. I'm not poor and its not always rock 'o clock. That would get dull. Actually, I do know about the others, and they're all happy. Very.
You have a long list of people who sometimes join you on stage, who do you most enjoy playing with?
Ah, you can't pick favourites, otherwise people get upset. It's sad really. Timothy Victor is as close to being in the band as anyone else is ever going to be though, he does all sorts with him. Martin Green and Inge Thomson live in Scotland, otherwise they'd be doing a lot more with us. Inge just toured with Will Oldham, the cow. Gill Sandell is lovely, and we enjoy having her on the team. Jen Fuse has just started singing with us sometimes, and we're loving her. We like nearly everyone who's played with us, but we go through phases where we need them or don't. Of late we've been happiest as a four-peice.
You seem to make good use of the internet in spreading your music, are you a fan of the whole online 'thing'?
I think so. We haven't done much really. We got a nice website, we do that stupid myspace thing and we answer most emails within, erm, a month or so. We're not virusing anyone or stuff like that though. People like us so they spread us round the internet. I don't know...
Your last album 'Balls' got an awful lot of good reviews, are you pleased with the response it got?
Yes. It could have got more good reviews, because it really is dead good, but I'm glad it got in The Sun and The Mirror especially. That's fucking hilarious.
What have you got planned for the rest of the year?
More shows, finish writing for the next record, make the next record, buy a new distortion pedal, buy some flowers, tell some more people to shut up in the quiet bits.
Finally, tell us something about yourselves that not many people know.
We're not shy, we're just rude.
