SXSW 2010: Generationals, Club De Ville, Austin
Live ReviewsA joyful experience.
18th March 2010, Club De Ville, Austin / By Tristan Bennett
You’ve got to love a group like Generationals. Musicians, as we all know, are a bit prone to over-indulgence. Sometimes it even works and a great career is born; more often than not it doesn’t and we just get bored. But Generationals have their catchiness down pat, and though I’m sure they’d balk at the suggestion, they seem pretty happy with just that.Keeping up a steady energy throughout their show, and winding up the crowd like a clock, the catchy, silly band from Louisiana play through their set with none of the feelings of dread importance you see written across the faces of all those here who have yet to make it. They’re not concerned about who’s writing, or who’s watching, but more with who’s dancing. The simple goodness of their songs and the bright, clear warble of their melodies make any of their performances a joyful experience, one that leaves you with a spring in your step and, hopefully, a 10 dollar CD in your pocket.
